SR 530 (US 192) from West of Orange Lake Country Club to East of Reedy Creek Bridge
Osceola and Orange Counties

This project involved the widening of SR 530 (US 192) from 4 to 6 lanes. The western portion of the project was widened within the median and the existing lanes milled and resurfaced, while the eastern portion was converted from a rural section to an urban, curb & gutter section to reduce adjacent property owner impacts. The area is extensively developed to attract tourists. New traffic signals and roadway lighting systems were required. Major utilities upgrades (potable water, force main, reuse main, communications, and power) were also necessary, and there were extensive landscaping and decorative paving, walls, signs, and bus stops included within the right-of-way. Near the eastern project limit, the existing bridge over Reedy Creek was replaced with an entirely new structure.

Heavy traffic volumes were present throughout the construction period, therefore Maintenance of Traffic (commuting vehicles, delivery trucking, tourist busses, and pedestrians) was an integral component to the project. Careful evaluation of the staging of all improvements was made to make sure to keep all access and services operational throughout the construction period.

Innovative/Cost-Effective Designs: coordination of designs by others for utility construction, as well as hardscaping and landscaping. In addition, specialized MOT concepts were necessary to maintain traffic over an area of muck removal.
