In-Town
By-Pass, Construction Plans City of Lakeland, Florida DRMP is providing Consultant services for the proposed construction of a one mile multi-lane, urban arterial highway in The City of Lakeland. The proposed project will serve as a by-pass through the Lakeland urban area. The proposed alignment starts on the west end of town, as a four-lane section with curb and gutter. From the Old George Jenkins Highway (S.R.600), it runs east then northeasterly across some vacant land owned by CSX Transportation. The road then bridges the CSX Transportation railroad and the Florida Tile industrial area. The roadway comes down from the bridge and intersects with a realigned Kathleen Road. The roadway curves to the east and intersects with Martin L. King, Jr. Avenue. One lane is added on each side and the alignment continues on to its terminus at Florida Avenue as a six lane urban curb and gutter section. Bike lanes and sidewalks have been incorporated along most of the project. This roadway should alleviate some of the traffic congestion from U.S.98 (Memorial Blvd.), and the downtown area, by providing a means of getting through the downtown area without disrupting the local street network. DRMP responsibilities include design and plans production of the highway, bridge, drainage, signal, signing and marking, environmental permitting, right-of-way and lighting plans for the project.
