6th Ave Roadway Drainage Improvements

6th Avenue Roadway and Drainage Improvements
City of Cairo, Georgia

DRMP was responsible for the planning, design, permitting, grant support, bid services and construction services for this project that provided improved connectivity, transportation, drainage and flood mitigation to a disadvantaged neighborhood in the City of Cairo, Georgia.  The project included evaluation of six alternatives, conducting of one workshop and one public hearing.  The recommended alternative was designed to GADOT standards and received an Army Corps of Engineers Dredge and Fill permit, a GA Erosion and Sedimentation Control Permit and a Stream Bank Buffer variance.  DRMP also prepared a Preliminary Design report to support and obtain Federal Funding under ARRA and provided full bid services and construction administration services to complete the project.

Lower East Branch Debris Trap

Lower East Branch Debris Trap
City of Tallahassee

The City of Tallahassee Trash Trap project involved the preparation of construction drawings and permitting of a floating skimmer, collection area and associated site work for a facility designed to collect trash, debris and floatables from the Lower East Branch Ditch in Tallahassee, Florida.  This project required substantial structural design including a galvanized bar rack and concrete holding structure, a modular aluminum floating skimmer, a post-mounted skimmer, a rock filled diversion dike, and a gravity retaining wall.  All of these structural engineering services were performed by our in-house structural engineers in close coordination with DRMP's experienced water resources staff.  Dimensions and design criteria for the project were based on DRMP's 1996 watershed study of the Lower East Branch Ditch, a study and report on similar structures prepared exclusively for this project, and coordination with City Stormwater Department and Maintenance personnel.

DRMP analyzed a variety of alternatives before developing a conceptual, geometric and structural design for the facility.  DRMP also oversaw the permitting of this project through the Department of Environmental Protection and the City of Tallahassee.  The detailed site design was prepared and bid and construction management services were provided.

Ybor Outfall Drainage Improvements

Ybor Outfall Drainage Improvements
City of Tampa

DRMP provided hydraulic analysis and made recommendations for the Ybor Basin to alleviate the flooding problems within the Ybor commercial district.  The analysis consisted of updating and modifying the existing SWMM Model in order to develop a conceptual solution to the existing drainage problems.  The study assisted the City with the design phase and implemented an effective workable system at minimal cost.

Phase II of DRMP’s Ybor Outfall Study consisted of developing construction plans for the recommended solution to the existing flooding problems.  Design involved the construction of 1300-LF of 72-inch storm sewer along 15th Street from 5th Avenue to Palm Avenue.  The project involved two rail crossings and associated permits, SWFWMD permitting, Drainage structure details, conflict structures, utility redesign, signalization and interconnect plans, maintenance of traffic, and signing and marking plans.  The American Public Works Association West Coast Branch awarded the Contractor of the Year Award for this project.

Riverside Acres Arch Pipe Rehabilitation

Riverside Acres Arch Pipe Rehabilitation
Orange County

DRMP was contracted to develop alternatives and present these alternatives to neighborhood residents. This project was initiated because of catastrophic failure of a 19-foot by 12-foot plate arch pipe during a period of chronic flooding brought on by the 1998 El Nino rainfall.  The County purchased two homes at that time and a portion of the pipe was replaced with an open channel with sheet pile walls to shore up the remaining area.  DRMP conducted three public meetings and a public hearing as alternatives were narrowed and a recommended solution was presented to the County Commission.  The final recommendation was to purchase approximately 19 homes and construct a wide channel section.  This recommendation was selected because of the anticipated permanent structure impacts to homes that would result during the two-year construction period.  The recommendation also provided for construction of a linear park and pedestrian bridges to maintain neighborhood continuity.  Phase II provides for the development of an engineering design report, modeling of the riverine system using adICPR, development of final construction plans and specifications, bridge design, landscaping design, permitting and bid assistance.

Squirrel Prairie Watershed Management Plan

Squirrel Prairie Watershed Management Plan
Southwest Florida Water Management District

DRMP contracted with the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) and Hernando County to develop a comprehensive watershed management plan for the Squirrel Prairie Watershed.  The goal of the project was to address current issues regarding flood protection, water quality, water supply, and natural systems.

DRMP reviewed current and historical records regarding the watershed as well as conducted a field review intended to update the District’s records.  The project consisted of the development of a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Database that included a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), Triangular Irregular Network (TIN), ArcInfo Coverages, Global Positioning System (GPS) point locations, and digital photos.  The data collected was used for floodplain analysis and delineation, surface water resource assessment (quantity and quality), Best Management Plan (BMP) Alternative Analysis, and conceptual permits for selected BMPs.  The use of GIS and digital spatial data allowed ease-of-use on both the part of DRMP and ultimately the client.
