TRAFFIC ENGINEERING

DRMP Traffic Engineering has been providing a broad range of engineering services to the FDOT District Four since 2002 as a continuing District Wide Traffic Operations Design and Planning Consultant.  These services include roadway design related to intersection improvements, ADA improvements, signalization design, signalization retiming, signing and pavement marking design, drainage improvements, utility coordination, and construction inspection. As part of the work effort for all work authorizations, DRMP is responsible for preparing all cost estimates for construction to ensure the department has adequate funds for their fast response contract.  To date, DRMP has 45 task orders under this contract.

The DRMP Traffic Engineering staff has been providing a broad range of engineering services to the FDOT District Five since 2001 as a continuing District Wide Traffic Operations Pushbutton Design and Studies Consultant.  These services include roadway design, ADA improvements, signalization design, signing and pavement marking design, drainage improvements, utility coordination, construction inspection, signal warrant studies, corridor retiming studies, left turn phase warrant studies, lighting justification reports and safety studies.  As part of the work effort for all work authorizations, DRMP is responsible for preparing all cost estimates for design projects to ensure the department has adequate funds for construction.

This project involved the complete replacement of nearly all signing (guide, regulatory and warning signing) along Florida’s Turnpike from the Canoe Creek Service Plaza in Osceola County to the interchange with I-75 in Sumter County. In addition, nearly all signing along the western portion (8.1 miles) of SR 528 (BeeLine Expressway) in Orange County was replaced.  The total length of the project was approximately 90 miles, and involved 40 lighted sign structures and 115 guide signs. Extensive coordination with agencies, regional attractions, and private developers (i.e. major trip generators), was necessary for the successful completion of this project.  DRMP finalized the draft master signing plan, developed a computerized database with digital photographs of existing signage for the mainline and interchanges, developed final signing plans, reviewed shop drawings and assisted with construction management and inspection. The final phase of the project entailed the development of a study providing recommendations for future signing improvements around the interchanges including “trailblazer” signage.

DRMP provided design services for improvements to three intersections along US 278 business. The improvements included addition of a dual left turn and an acceleration lane at Beach City Road, addition of an acceleration lane at Coggins Point Road, and addition of a right turn lane at Burkes Beach Road. DRMP provided road design, traffic engineering, signal design, drainage design, and permit applications. Permitting includes NPDES permit and SCDOT encroachment permits as well as the Town of Hilton Head permits.
